Frederick
I have been to a UK French market this morning and noticed that their selling methods are different to what I see in my local Vendee market .Fromage stall I bought Carre Des Ducs 200 grmsTomme Pere Eugene 250 grmsCeur de Lion " Offre Gouremand " Cemembert 250 grmsThey were shown among many as three for five pounds and after purchase the lady staff holder offered a local extra cheese from her town for £1 .So the offer was 4 cheeses for £6 . All still within sell by date .Needless to say she had a line formed and was doing good business and they will be there tomorrow as it is a three day market and will probably do better on a Sunday The sausage stall I was pleased to see and was doing good trade also .So those of us in the UK when you see a French market visit your town its worth a visit for offers you may not see in France . . Gluestick
For those living near London, Borough Market is a frenetic but excellent day out.French, Spanish and Italian stallholders as well as rafts of British culinary delights.See Here:Some excellent traditional pubs serving real ale, too: and an excellent real French restaurant specialising in fishy things! When Mrs GS worked nearby, she often came home bearing gifts after a Friday lunchtime visit! Also worth visiting Southwark Cathedral, nearby.Went with chums from near Reading one, day and purchased some Chorizo from a charming Spanish lady: our dear friends (who live now in Andalusia) and love it, reckoned the very best they had ever eaten! So there.
NickP
When Mrs GS worked nearby, she often came home bearing gifts after a Friday lunchtime visit!
I would think Gluey that Mrs G would appreciate it if you to rewrote/rephrased that comment? Gluestick
When she worked near the East end, on Fridays she often returned with doughnuts and bread from Kossofs, in Petticoat Lane.Perhaps the best doughnuts ever.[:D]Actually, Nick, the only time I was a mite concerned was when she worked in Lloyds (underwriting etc), as PA to one of the king pins. And if late, he gave her bottles of the best best Louis and Theophile Roederer champers........And then I met him: very ancient and rather doddery and a thoroughly charming man and a multi-millionaire to boot. He used to import a container of Roederer each year, for entertaining clients and guests at his private box at Cheltenham etc.
