Peter Mayle style, but about England

You know the Peter Myale sort of books, the ones that pretend to explain the quirky habits of everyday life in France...

I remember reading 'Les carnets du Major Thompson' (Pierre Daninos) a long long time ago, which was all about England and its daily life.

Are there any others, perhaps more recent, that do the same thing?

Clair,

I saw at least 5 titles of these types of books on the UK in a large bookshop in Montpellier a few months ago. Couldn't bear the thought of reading them either ,as I couldn't the thought of reading the Peter Mayle one when it came out. Am I the only person who never read that book?

Mind you, saw the film loosely based on it a few weeks back and that wasn't a very clever thing to do.[:(]

(Ted Stanger is in a league of his own and I have read all but one of his books on France).

I just wonder if they are are 'embroidered' for their market as the Peter Mayle & Co are...?

Ted Stanger is on my list, but I have to recoup the money I foolishly spent (squandered !)on car repairs before allowing myself more book treats! [:P]
