diggers
I am in the process of selling my property the completion was set for jan 7th 2011 and have just been advised by the notaire to bring the date forward to the 31st dec because of a new property tax applying to all sales from the 1st of jan. the tax is 12%of the gain made. i am French resident and this is my main residence the notaire is fully aware of my status. Would be grateful to know if anyone has heard of this tax, is it part of the new budget reforms?
PaulT
If it is true you seem to have a great Notaire there.

Weedon
It is my understanding that if you are resident in France, pay your tax here and it is your primary (or only) house, then no CGT is liable on the sale.See here Or have I misunderstood the article? tinabee
I believe the change is that CSG (social charges) will be applied to a capital gain on a house sale from Jan 2011 - not that there is any change in the actual capital gains tax regime. Mr Coeur de Lion
I wonder how I will be treated when I come to sell my house. It is my only house and I lived in it for 4.5 years. It is rented for the next 3 years and then I intend selling it.Where I will be living in the meantime is basically boarding at someone elses home from a legal perspective.Still, with house prices in this part of France, I doubt there'll be any gain on it anyway. Mr Coeur de Lion
The only error I can see is that I should have put an apostrophe in "else's".
