nomoss
Someone asked about these quite a long time ago, but I can't remember who it was.Anyway, I just began re-reading one which I must have bought whilst living in Algeria in the late 1960's. L'An Cinq de la Révolution Algérienne published in France in 1959 by Frantz Fanon. The English ranslation which I am reading was translated and published as A Study in Dying Colonialism by Monthly Review Press in 1965, and as A Dying Colonialism in Pelican Books in 1970. Harnser
"Legionnaire" author Simon Murray.Who volunteered aged 19 and did 5 years in the Legion.Written from his diaries kept at the time.Much of it in Algeria during the time of the war against the fellagha and the attempted legion coup d'etat against deGaulle.Fairly brutal descriptions - not for the faint hearted. The same Simon Murray who went on to become CEO of Jardine Mathison and take part in polar expeditions recently.
