Anton Redman
I like bikes. I was amazed at the recent auction price for a Brough. Had a good and trusted friend try to separate me from my breakfast whilst I was in the chair some years ago but :Honda Goldwings and Harley Davidsons.By the time you have put a sidecar the size of an Austin 7 plus a trailer on a Goldwing what is the point ? You could be running a Lancia Fluvia, a Lotus Elan or a BMW 2002Harley's seem intent on proving the pre Kaiser war Cadillacs were the best vechiles ever made in the USA
Chancer
At the swimming pool last night I saw a really cool outfit, I dunno what the bike was, some itchifanni, or whatever but the sidecar looked like a Lotus Exige and had two side by side seats containing very happy teenage children. Papa looked really pleased as well to be able to continue riding his bike even if he did have the equivalent of a couple of Austin 7's hanging off it.Seriously it looked drop dead cool not a bit like Arthur and Olive! woolybanana
Why are Harley owners apparently all over 65 with grey beards and walking sticks, and that is just the ladies?
Dog
Are all Hardly Desirable owners so muddled and deaf that they do not realise the silencers are shot on their old scrapo heap. They should spend less on chrome and more on replacing the badly made chinese parts on their bikes. HDs are after all nearly 80% made in PRC.These people are little more than the motorcycling equivalent to Range Rover owners who couldn't give a toss about the environment or petrol consumption. They think loud means fast. Why do they find it necessary to dress in two or three dead cows and off the bike try to look like pirates covered in biro doodles all over their arms?I wouldn't own a Goldwin (as the French call them as they cannot pronounce Gs) but it's a fine engine and great in my Valkyrie (which has more USA made parts than an HD).I would buy I Brough Superior a Vincent or a Scott if I could get it past the war office but until then have to stick to my 76 bevel drive Ducati for that retro feel. It is slightly noisy but has original Conti silencers.

sidebike
PERHAPS YOU SHOULD DRIVE A PROPER OUTFIT BEFORE MAKING SILLY COMENTS YOU MIGHT THEN CHANGE YOUR MIND
Anton Redman
Simply posting in upper case does not advance the cause. They seem to combine the worst aspects of a bike with the worst aspects of a car.
DerekJ
but :Honda Goldwings and Harley Davidsons.
I've never ridden a Goldwing but they always make me smile especially when I see one with a trailer on the back. From a few sources I've heard that they are remarkably competent bikes in the right hands. Have a look at this guy at Deals Gap. He isn't hanging around. And as Dog says.. a great engine. As to Harleys, well, I've ridden a few and used to have a 1200 Sportster many years ago. Terrible brakes, road holding OKish but still great fun. Bit similar with the Fat Boy I rode. It kind of depends what you want from a bike and how you plan to ride it. My last sports bike was a Yamaha R1. A fantastic bike but I eventually decided I was either going to kill myself or lose my licence. Yes, I know the throttle goes in both directions but the temptation to wind it on usually got the better of me.Currently got a BMW 1150GS which suits me fine for riding B roads, the odd fire road and a bit of touring. But I'm now getting a hankering to get another Harley... perhaps a Road King or a Glide. Just great for pottering and touring and no pressure to ride it particularly fast. There's something about them that just appeals.

But a decently ridden Harley can still progress at a reasonable pace. It's not going to outpace a decently ridden sportsbike but can still give a lot of pleasure. BIG MAC
"A decent sports bike" Note the pedals but probably still capable of giving a Harley a run for its money lol!
