dogwood
Help, this is driving me nutttttts.I have just bought a 50cc Honda scooter 2010.It is French registered.I'm trying to find insurance for it.My broker is quoting over 300€.....Do me a favour!!I am a 58 year old with over 40 years riding experience. In the UK I can get insurance for £72.I know it's going to be dearer in France. But no one else will quote me unless I have car insurance with them first.I've done a search but to no avail .....Anyone got a sensible insurance on their scooter, they could point me to.Thanks David
sid
The bike insurance premiums are more expensive here, but I've not heard about having to have car insurance first... what if you don't have a car?Have you tried the online quotes? Google "assurances moto"; the first results page alone gives several quote sites.

sid
Blimey, that IS expensive! I'm paying 286€ (Allianz) for my Honda VFR800. Have you got any previous no-claims from UK insurers? That would help.
Bob T
Dogwood, why not ask whoever insures your car?

Clair
We pay 160€ a year for a comprehensive cover on our Yamaha 125, with MAAF, who also cover everything else.
dogwood
Cheers Clair.Maaf won't insure bikes less than 80cc.Another brick wall.......

Bob T
Cheers Clair.Maaf won't insure bikes less than 80cc.Another brick wall.......
That is good news for me as the wife has just bought herself a 125. We are with MAAF and they were very cheap for the BMW 1100's when we had them.
sid
I couldn't believe the premiums dogwood was quoting so I've done an online comparison myself, just to prove how wrong he was! [:$]386€ !!!!!! [:-))] They must be having a larf! 50cc Honda !! Exactly 100€ more than I currently pay for my Honda 800 !!! (Mine is not with the same company that insures my car by the way)I think the only thing to do is to call in at an insurance agent and bang the table a bit. [blink]Bon courage! Pierre ZFP
Sid, I also did a check myself for the same reason and also got a quote of €386 !!!This is weird as a colleague here has a collection of around 20 Mobylettes !! and initially paid €47 per year each and now pays €200 for the whole collection.Unfortunately I can't ask her which insurance company as she is on holiday - I'll try txting her. Pierre ZFP
OK my friend replied, she uses SADA Collections http://www.sada.fr/fiche-produit-assurance.php?i=voiture-de-collection-30If the moped is more than 25 years alod it costs nearly nothing but they aparently will insure newer stuff too, hope this helps
sid
That's worth a try Pierre.I've now received an email from assurland.com quoting me a premium of 328€ and I suppose I'll be bombarded with quotes I don't want for a while. I had the forethought to use one of my "other" email addresses so it won't be too much of a nuisance. This is where I give up, and thank my lucky stars that I'm OK (Jack). Chancer
Yup, its crept up a bit from the days when it was just over €100 [:(]Just checked it was €126 of which €22 are taxes, its due in September, I expect it will go up again maybe I should get a moped [I]On second thoughts I will wait until I win the lottery, in any case my car does more to the gallon than my sports moped did and diesel is cheaper [;-)]
