Clair
Mr Clair and me met when we both worked in a professional photo lab in the UK.That was in the olden days, when we still had to mix large tanks of chemicals, untangle rolls and rolls of Kodak paper stuck together in the darkroom and deal with prima donnas called professional photographer, who all wanted their Saturday weddings printed on Monday!Mr Clair is trained as a pro photographer and used to run his own pro lab. With the advent of the digital medium, he taught himself to use Photoshop and Macs.I worked in a pro lab for 10 years.
Dick Smith
I started age 10 (so it's surprising I'm not better at it, really), developing film and contact paper in a friend's bathroom, then got seriously interested in the late 60s. My first camera cost about a fiver, quite a sum in those days. I spent a long time with Pentax and then went the Nikon + TriX route (still love it). A bit of medium format, but the cyclist and the snake knocked that out of me.For me, digital has been a liberation - I usually only get 1 or 2 decent pictures in a 'roll' so it costs a lot less, too - in fact my Nikon D70 paid for itself in about fifty rolls of film! I just wish I had somewhere to put all the pictures - but I have made a 'family gallery' in our French place.
