Town and village - not cathedrals or chateaux
The very beautiful nearby Brantôme.  BTW it's not a chateau or cathedral in the background - it's an abbey!

Brantôme, some time back, my nearest town, we used to eat at Au fil de

l'eau which is the resto to the right of the photo with the shades up

and the tables by the riverside . Some people might remember, a post

where I once said a freak storm blew up and took tables and chairs in

to the water from a resto we were eating at, well it was this resto.

And if one looked directly behind the person taking the photo, there is

the Le Fil du Temp resto where we ate in March on our way home from

Spain. I am told that along with the Moulin De L'Abbaye resto, they are

owned by the same people ?

Nice photo.

Yes, the house on the Dronne looked roughly the same (dare I say, perhaps not quite as nice as it looks there and hope the owners are not looking in !!) as when we left in 1999.

It was owned at the time by some Brits, or was it Americans??? ...........Anyway, it's a lovely little town.

St Cirque is a lovely little village. How the church doesn't fall in the river is a mystery to me.

Are cities allowed. This the Old Cité of Carcasonne as seen from the gaurigue just up the lane from where we live. The second row of 'hills' in the background are the Pyrenees again. They seem to be everywhere at this time of the year.

Just tell us when DTP and, clear weather permitting, will show the view ( I don't say that to all the girls I meet!), cuppa served all day! Well, until 'sundowners'. We would love to see you...

Clair, that's a lovely shot. Have you been onto one of those walkways on the castle at the top that go out over the valley. Very small side walls, narrow walkways and a VERY large drop both sides. U.K. health and safety would have a fit, big time. Fantastic though!!!
It is, isn't it? Beautifully composed and framed in the archway, leading the eye out into the view. Pity the sky wasn't just a bit clearer, but hey, this is France!
Thank you both for the kind comments.

This was a very stormy day (heavy clouds) and the weather was very changeable. Thundery clouds followed by bright streaks of sunshine.

I did walk up to the top and would you believe there was a couple heaving a pushchair (with toddler) up there!!!

This is the view from the top and you can just about make out the doorway framing the previous shot by following the tip of the roof to the stone wall along the river.

Not far from Brantome is Bourdeilles. This photo of a mill shaped like a boat on the Dronne was taken in about 1972.

Does it still look like this?

Same aspect taken in 2003 (I can't take credit for the photo though - one of our friends' took it on a visit to us very nearby). Have you been to the top of the tower of the chateau? This little house is a perfect boat shape, right in the middle of the river.

Lovely photos! I have typed out two detailed messages on some of the photos and both times they have disappeared! [:'(] Perhaps it happens if you are typing and someone posts a photo at the same time.  In any case thanks for sharing. [:)]

I will be posting some that I took today as well. [:)]

I now keep my camera in my bag. I haven't had much of a reason until now to take photos and because I do love the area I am really enjoying taking the odd one to post here. I will have to comment at some stage when the thread will allow me to on Bourdeilles and Brantome. I have never been to St Cirq Lapopie but will now have to make a point in going, it is lovely.

I took this one of this Bar/Tabac because Cassis made me feel obliged to do so when he said no chateaux or cathedrals.[:)]

Sarlat again, in fact I think it was Tony F Dordogne that recommended the restaurant not that long ago.
