Cassis
So that's what you get up to in the wee hours when Julie's gone to sleep. You should be ashamed of yourself.
Chris Head
Hang on Cass, why is your good lady sleeping at Dicks place? Cat
Have any of you guys ever heard of New Zealand kauri wood? The trees themselves are some of the largest and oldest in the world, and are protected. But from time to time really old trees are found embedded in salt marshes and used as an exotic wood. When I was out there I visited a place that used this old and rare wood to make furniture, and it was just beautiful. I can't remember that name of the outfit that I visited, but here's some information on the wood itself http://www.ancientkauri.co.nz/index.php/zealand_ancient_swamp_kauri_wood

Dick Smith
Cat, that's amazing.I was talking to the school's wood guru yesterday, and he told me he had acquired a very small amount of 3000+ year-old bog oak. He had turned a piece to make a beautiful handle for a small tack hammer, and it looked and felt like ebony, but with an open pore structure. Interesting stuff. He is just wondering what to do with the last of his elm...

Chris Head
Really extraordinary pictures Ernie, just mind blowing to a timber anorak! In my dreams a truck will turn up at my place with stumps and butts like those, me and my babies would be in heaven...where would you start? Oh boy! Earning a living when there are no rules is guaranteed to send one to the funny farm! Just how exciting is life? The craftsmansip in the furniture is top notch, there's alot of work gone into it and they've managed to hold back and leave the timber to talk for itself. The finishing is clearly masterful, there are many many hours of dedication in each piece. The price tags are justified. Love it or loathe it, it's impressive stuff.Cheers for that Ernie...is it to late to wake my babies up?[:-))]
