tizzylizzy
We have just had an oak staircase put in and we can't decide how to treat it. Before we have used vitrificater on pine but I thought it looked too orange. I have seen various oils recommended but I'm nervous of trying them. Has anyone any photos of oak treated with a product they were happy with I could have a look at? Many thanks.

jono
tizzylizzy,Oak stair with 3 coats of Sadolin extra durable floor varnish (clear satin) I'm pleased with the finish and colour.Jono Bedford and SE Vendee
just john
I don't have any pics, but if you're looking for a slightly darker more oak look you could give a couple of coats with Boiled Linseed Oil (bought (not boiled at home!) like this from B&Q, don't know what it is en France) then follow with a good natural bees wax till your arms drop off!) More real and less insepid yellow than varnish[8-|]
Halldfandid
Jono,We are just about to treat a chestnut stair - still bare wood. Can sadolin be bought in France or do we need to take it with us ?Thanks in anticipation.Irene
jono
Hallfandid,Suggest you buy in UK because it's cheaper - try Wilkinsons.Jono
tizzylizzy
Thanks for all your suggestions. Jono, your staircase is very similar to ours and I like the finish so I just might pay a visit to Wilkies next time we are in the UK.
Poolguy
I suggest that you use TUNG OIL as it it the only natural oil that will polymerize hard, all of the other with plastify which is not as durable.Andrew
