SaligoBay
I need some river sand, sable de rivière. To put inside the base of a patchwork doll so that she sits nicely. At the risk of asking a very obvious question, does this really mean sand from a river, or is it a breed of sand that just happens to be called river sand? It's not really river-dredging weather, so where do I get river sand?Thank you! Will
I think it is a name for fine, good quality sand - that might well come from a river. It's used for putting on lawns, so you would probably find it for sale at gardening places. I looked it up and it's also called sable roulé, and it is distinct from sable concassé, also known as sable de carrière, which is the coarser sort of sand that is used in building. Though you might find sable roulé at a builders merchants too, because I think it is used in fine mortar, though I'm no builder (or gardener, or doll maker, come to that) so I can't really say. SaligoBay
Thank you, Will. I can face a gardening centre. Better than going into a ruffy tuffy builder's merchants and asking for doll filling!
