Sprogster
Peter, as far as I am aware the long stay visa does not permit work either, and now needs to be applied for and granted before arrival in France. To obtain a work visa you need to be sponsored by a French employer, who must demonstrate that they have been unable to recruit an EU citizen for the job, which requires specialist skills. Anton Redman
No it is not a simple swop.Stage 1 - Friend proves their cannot recruit locally person with appropriate skills.Stage 2 - He applies to sponsor you.Stage 3 You apply for work visa in your country of residence / home country

Sprogster
Peter, I am sorry to put a damper on your aspirations, but it is highly unlikely you will qualify for a work visa in France, as they are extremely difficult to obtain, unless you are post graduate qualified and have a highly skilled professional occupation that is recognised as having a shortage in France. You cannot apply for this from France, as you have to return to Russia and you can easily be looking at a year or more for the paperwork to be processed and a decision made.Furthermore, I expect that as a Russian citizen you will be even more up against it, as the French authorities probably see Russia as a high risk jurisdiction for illegal immigration and you would be subject to quite detailed background, financial and medical checks. Anton Redman
I can barely read underground station names and which toilet I should use in Russien but if you google French Embassy Moscow you should find a detailed page about working visas for France
