gluten free plea

Since we moved to France I have been unable to find any gluten free flour in any of the supermarkets, even the huge Auchan at Bordeaux. I have been making my gluten free bread from flour that I or a kind relative has lugged over from the UK. I know that there are various websites that sell the flour but the prices are hideous, especially once you add the delivery charge.

If anyone knows of  a source of gluten free flour, preferably from a national chain, I would be very grateful (and so would my Mum).

You are likely to find gluten-free items,  in chemists who do "dietetique", or in health food shops -

( Bio co-ops, or magasins de dietetique)

In my local Bio-Co-op, there is a fair range of gluten-free items - not just flour. If you don't have one near you, you should be able to ask your chemist, they will either order items for you, or direct you to a source.

There are several online sources for all kinds of gluten free products, including flour.  I don't have them at my fingertips, but do a Google on "produits sans gluten" and you should come up with a bunch. One name that sticks in my mind is Maison Poetto.  But I remember that there are others.

Names to look for: Schar, Label Vie or Glutafin. They readily available from health food shops and bio shops.

Hi Karen,

As you are in the Gironde, try Le Magasin General in Duras (47).  They have  a range of flours & are extending their gluten free range.  lemagasingeneral@yahoo.co.uk or 05 53 79 20 03.  Hope that helps.
