Beeswax furniture polish

I make my own.  This smells lovely but please do it outside due to flammable nature of the ingredients.

Take a big block of beeswax (Tip - get this from a hairdressers suppliers, it is very cheap but I have no idea, and don't want to know, what it is used for) put in in a clean tin or old saucepan and put on a gentle heat, eg the remains of your barbeque or a camping gas burner.  Add real turpentine, NOT turps substitute at a proportion of 10ml to 100gram wax.  This is not critical and can be adjusted later.  Mix it all in as it melts.  When all is liquid, add more turps if it seems too thick or more wax if too runny.  Remember it will thicken a lot when cool.  pour it into a tin and allow to cool.   If the consistency is not to your liking you can always heat it again and adjust.  I've heard that you can add things like lavender oil to give a nice pong but I've not tried this, I just love the smell of the natural wax and a little goes a long way.

Hope this helps - I will dig out the name of the supplier of my wax and post later

Alternatively, Syntilor do a range of ready to use beeswax polishes (and just about any other kind of wood finish product you might want).  They are commonly available in virtually every DIY outlet and many supermarkets.  You can also get Liberon products here.

Syntilor

Liberon

There is an English language entry page on the Syntilor site and I'm sure Liberon have a UK site as well if you prefer.

Thank you, Pierre.  I'm sure that yours is lovely, but, even from outside, I would probably manage to burn down the house, if not the entire ville.

Thanks, Cassis, the pates are exactly what I want.  Don't know how I've managed to miss them in Mr. B or Castorama (or the local drogurie, for that matter), but I'll look for them next time I'm there.
