Nicos
We have inherited an old metal bedframe which came with the house as it was impossible to dismantle![:)]Problem is that the base is far too soft! It's made up of stretchy chain mail and although we have managed to tighten it to maximum with the screws, it's still a bit like a hammock! (cosey for two...I know!)[:-))]Anyone managed to adapt the base??Locals say to put a second mattress on it, but I'd rather try and use some slats or something.Problem is, that there is no support at the sides and I fear wood would snap.Any ideas very welcome!!!! Nicos
Anyone done this??? Or do you either own modern beds , or just like an excuse to sleep scrunched up with your loved one?????[:-))]
Mikew
Can you not fit a 'sommier' (slatted bed base). I have just looked in the Fly catalogue and they exist fully framed in steel tube which could help reinforce your bed. Try www.fly.fr.Then fit a decent mattress on top! Nicos
Ok....I've seen them with wooden frames but not metal- and was concerned they would snap at the sides due to no support from underneath.Worth looking into- thanks Mikew[:D]
tb
There is a firm near Chirk Castle (not too far from Cheshire) who restore old beds including making bed bases that will fit over metal frames. We bought one for an edwardian bed Vono bed that didn't have any 'middle'. They come in 2 halves that have a screw in metal bar to hold the top and bottom together. Any mattress can then be put on top.
Nicos
Problem is that we can't get the base out of the room without cutting it up!Thanks tb - it would be good to see what this firm can offer.Think it may involve a bit of drilling to fix various bits together. It's not a priority as it's ok for one person, and for two, we've been putting the mattress on the floor for now..I hate the idea of cutting it up.....
