Bugsy
I'm making a 'Welcome' sign and am struggling to find a supplier (in France) of brass letters. Has anyone seen them for sale anywhere? Thanks.
Jonzjob
Hi BB, as no-one has answered. Could I suggest that you could get some brass sheet and a Dremel and possibily cut your own. Not a difficult job as long as the brass is not too thick and you could do the art work on your PC and finish up with the exact welcome you want.Very satisfying. Jonzjob
I look forward to that Gary. There are some really good fonts that really lend themselves to jobs like that. I have used them in the same way with wooden signs with the contrasting wood on a light wood back ground. Mahogony on a pyrina pine base, my old hobby name in the U.K.I love to use my Dremel for things like that. With the felt mops you can get a lovely finish on brass with a bit of Brasso...

Clair
Very smart Gary! What wood did you use? and did you cut the letters or did you find a supplier?
Bugsy
Thanks Clair,The wood is an old burr that I've had for ages, couldn't decide what to do with it. It was too good to turn into a bowl so I got a local timber guy to slice it for me and then just a few hours of polishing. It's a pure wax finish, no varnish. The leters were bought, pre-cut from a shop in the UK.
Pads
Very nice Bugbear , there seems to be a few men on here with lots of talent . Why dont one of you start a picture thread of the things you have made , I for one would be interested.
Jonzjob
Cor blimey mate you could have mounted them on a nice bit of white melimine chip board? But I suppose that a nice cross cut of bur elm will have to do [:D]One of my favorite woods and it looks lovely! If that is a slice off of a bigger bit the rest would make a wonderful platter, depending on the thickness..I have seen those letters before and they are really nice. Good job Gary. Are the letters spiked at the back or stuck on?

Dick Smith
Gently and with clenched buttocks, I suspect!Must have been nerve-wracking drilling the holes in the right places as well - just a bit off and it would be obvious.
