mint
Anyone buying wood for this winter? We have been quoted €45 a stere for oak, cut to lengths to fit our woodburner and bois-charbon oven. Is the price good, bad or ugly?
Hoddy
The price we've been quoted is E53 a stere, cut to size and delivered. This is for chene or charme. Our usual supplier has no chene vert which is our preferred fuel.Hoddy
mint
Hoddy, what is the difference between chene vert and bog standard chene?
Danny
just for you, sweet 17 http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C3%AAne_vertDannyPS I think the price is good and get as much as you can keep as it is only going to get more expensive as time goes on. I know the price varies in different areas but we just had 10 stere delivered in 1 metre lengths for 45 euros a stere.
Hoddy
Sweet 17, Jane and Danny's link explains it. We were really confused when we started because we assumed that vert meant green as in unseasoned wood. I still don't really know what's going on except that chene vert comes from black oaks and appears to burn longer and hotter than other woods.Hoddy
mint
Thanks for coming back, Hoddy, and thank you, Danny, for your informative link.I doubt mine will be chene vert but, I shall now go ahead and order with some confidence.Last year, our first, we seemed to have had a lot of chestnut mixed with the chene and OH reckoned that we were getting a lot of resin and muck in our stoves because of that.I never thought the day would come when I'd get to be seriously interested in the most suitable wood for burning to keep warm, seeing as I lived in the tropics as a child and fires were only for cooking!
