nikki
We are furnishing our house soon in SW France. 20 minutes from Carcasonne. Thinking of getting most of our stuff from Ikea in Toulouse. Does anyone know of anywhere else for matresses. Also can you hire a van from Ikea, and do they speak english in Toulouse Ikea. (Our french is not very good). Help much appreciated. Anton Redman
Ikea matresses were, and are good value for money : But, Fly Conforrama also sell them as do anywhere selling beds. The only time Ikea do not speak English is when you want to complain that you have been overcharged for a item that was reduced for people with an Ikea loyalty card. Might be worth comparing costs of van hire with local Super U but they do hire vans
Théière
Ikea matresses are their own size so you will have to buy everything from their too.
buckdendave
We bought a couple of mattresses from Ikea at Toulouse via the website (in English), and had them delivered. All worked OK.There was (and probably still is) a shop/warehouse selling mattresses and beds at the commercial centre on the East side of Carcassonne (sorry forgotten the locality, but its near the other Geant hypermarket from the one at La Bouriette), down a side road near the Pagoda. baypond
Do you know if these places sell them 'pret a porter' ? We have bought some beds in England to take down to France but it would be great if the mattresses were off the shelf.
Scooby
Has anyone any suggestions re the standard french bed....comparing it with a Japanese tatami is not over stretching the mark! We have doubled up with mattresses to solve the problem but wondered if anyone else had any alternative suggestions.

Walked in, chose what we wanted, paid, loaded up there and then. Easy peasy.RegardsPickles
partout
Hi BaypondCHECK that the matresses you buy in France will fit your beds from England, this also applies to bed linen especially fitted sheets, the sizes are different.....
baypond
Hi thanks 'partout' .. The main problem is with the super king in terms of stocking. The size is ok 183 x 200 in UK and 180 x 200 in France
zeb
Ikea matresses are their own size so you will have to buy everything from their too.
Are they? Hadn't noticed a difference as our beds are not Ikea and nor is most of the bedding. The mattress we bought at Ikea Toulouse fits our UK single bed nicely, although we had been told that there would be a difference. All the rest are French beds that came with mattresses, so no problems. I did find it a bit of a nightmare when I first came over with bedding, but we have gradually changed our duvets to French kingsize so that we can buy all our bedding here, and we bought a supply of UK fitted sheets for the English bed.
