[/quote]Hi, Have a look here - most of the payments don't go to the notaire;www.apce.com/cid60741/cout-d-une-declaration-d-insaisissabilite-des-biens-fonciers-batis-ou-non-batis.html?pid=101There seem to be wide variations , but these may be related to the value of the assets

Val_2
You do realise don't you, that this document does not protect you against all debts already outstanding before you sign this paper if you have them previously. It only protects against any problems after you have this in place to protect your assets.
HoneySuckleDreams
Val_2, yes I understand what it's all about. I don't have any current debts so no worries there.
Val_2
I only mentioned it because many brits are under the illusion that once they get into debt here with no way out easily, they can just go along and get this protection drawn up which isnot the case as the debt is already there. It is useful therefore for an artisan or sole trader to take this out to protect themselves against losing their home which a SARL or EURL setup already does. The cost ranges from about €600 to get the notaire to make this document.
HoneySuckleDreams
The notaire has told me: of that cost, €231 is publicising it.My french friend told me that when he was getting married, the notaire added a clause into the marriage contract that effecively did the same thing, to protect the rights of his wife. As this is published at the marie, then is sufficient enough under law. Marriage contracts are relatively cheap in comparison to doing it this way.
