Miki
One of the greatest passers of a ball that I ever saw (albeit at the wrong end of the Kings Road !!!)Johnny Haynes, died today at the age of 71.Wonderful player to watch, economic with his running, letting the ball do the work but boy could he moan at others not seeing the game as he did !! First player to benefit from the relaxation of the £10 per week player (doesn't that sound strange !) Tommy Trinder (Chairman of Fulham at the time) said he was more than happy to be paying the great man £100 per week...he would be worth a lot more now !! Ron Avery
Hear Hear Miki As a lifelong Fulham supporter I mourn the great man's passing, no pun intended Although a gifted player he was at times the most frustrating player to watch, the phrase "quick break out of defence" was never part of his game and at times you almost felt that he was waiting for the opposition to get players back behind the ball . This frustrated players like Rodney Marsh, Graham Leggatt, Jimmy Conway and Les Barrett and Johnny's career at Fulham ended on a sour note when they made him player manager at a time when his own game was not beyond reproach. But he had a great career for Fulham and England and was a loyal servant to Fulham for over 18 years, although he could have moved abroad and made a lot more money, he stayed loyal to the club that set him on the road to stardom
