Marking a lawn???

We want to mark out lines on the lawn for a silly game one day[:D], with some sort of whitewash I suppose.  Something that doesn't harm the lawn, anyway, and will wash off in due course (if we ever get any rain.....)

What would we use and what would it be called in France?

During the summer the lads always put up the net and play volleyball.  I just buy loads of the cheapest flour and they mark the pitch out - usually stays for a while and of course disappears at the first rain.

I'm helping organise a fete de cheval and we have to line up 28 horses and riders for the spectacle (European countries - 50th anniversary) and at the last rehearsal I suggested we needed to mark the ground with each rider's number as it's chaos trying to get them in the right order. I could decant some into a dry water bottle with a hole pierced in the lid.
