PaulW
We are in the process of buying property in France. On a recent visit to view some properties I started to question how I would go about having a weekly dabble on the footy. I know there wouldn't be any way of doing it via a betting shop in France (I don't think so anyway). I then tried to look at what was available online but I seemed to get blocked when I tried to place a bet via your regular UK betting sites - William Hill, Coral etc.Is this a real problem or was it something else?Seriously, my life would end if I couldn't place a bet on the footy each Saturday. Gardian
Paul ...........Problem I think.I used to have a William Hill a/c over here: just used it for Cheltenham and Royal Ascot (honestly!)Anyway, a couple of years ago they notified me that they were shutting down their a/c's over here because the French Govt was going to require them to have a 'presence' here in France employing - well x number of employees - and presumably thus paying tax in France.I suppose that it was a bit like Ryanair and its hubs (one of which was in Marseille) and where they were technically employees elsewhere in the EU.Anyway, whatever the whys and wherefores, you're up the creek. How it might work if you were able to retain a UK-based ISP, I really don't know. As to whether your life should really end on the outcome of (say) Stoke City vs Sunderland, I really don't know either. Hopefully not.
YCCMB
I know a number of people who bet on UK events (usually horse racing) from France. What I know about betting you could write on the eye of a fly with a crowbar, but I have a feeling that if you have an account with an online bookmaker and an IP blocker it's perfectly easy. Pierre ZFP
Whilst I am not a betting man (I don't like losing [;-)] ) don't the likes of BetFred, BetFair and 888.com have an international presence?
crabtree
If it is just the footy you want to bet on I think that any PMU will take the bet. Not sure if it might only be the higher divisions though. Not into betting so can't be sure.
PaulW
Oh great! I've told the wife to forget about our dream move now!!How about telephone betting direct to the UK? That should be OK shouldn't it?
Jo
Shortly after moving here full time I had a book of raffle tickets returned to me by the British Legion explaining as I lived in France I can no longer gamble or bet or buy lottery/raffle tickets in the UK. I have a VPN UK account that gives me a UK based computer address so I can use iPlayer, presumably you could use that to place bets in UK, it costs me £5 a month. Make sure you get it right though, nothing worse than hitting the jackpot and being unable to collect.....!!!!!!
