Bas
My son wishes to get married to a French girl in France. He has been asked for a "Certificat de Celibat" issued by the British Government tosay he is unmarried. He can't produce this as it is not a document that the British government issues. The local mairie are insisting he has one of these. How do we get round it please? Does anyone know the answer. There must be something we can do. Other Brits must have got married in France without one.
woolybanana
In UK this is known as a Certificate of No Impediment and can be obtained from your boy's local UK town hall.Of course there will have to be translatione etc. This may be of some help but you will have to activate it or copy and paste:http://www.ambafrance-uk.org/Civil-marriage-in-France,12146
val douest
All we needed in place of the Certificat de Celibat was a certificate which says there is no such document in the UK! This you can print off the website of the British Embassy in Paris (in French) for no charge at https://www.gov.uk/marriage-abroad/y/france/marriage and was accepted without any problem. Our daughter was married here in France in 2007 and because there was so much red tape involved (both the bride and groom were normally resident in the UK) I posted a guide to negotiating through the paperwork which you can still find in the 'Getting married in France' Forum, under FAQs - getting married in France at the head of the section.Bonne chance!Val
