Chauffour
We are just about to collect 3 or 4 trailer loads of manure for our borders & veg garden. As we are going away this winter we need to put it down within the next week, whilst some plants are still flowering. The veg garden can be cleared, but I'm a bit concerned about "burning" existing shrubs, perennials, etc in the borders. Any advice on the subject greatly appreciated! thanks
Iceni
Your manure should be mature - 2 or 3 years to avoid being too hot.John
Chauffour
cheers, well luckily it was 2 years old and after 3 trailer loads it's all nearly now in place. Looking forward to seeing the benefits next spring/summer
letrangere
I can across an amusing reference to manure today on the BBC website. Talking about how Hitler had once commented that it would be good if someone could find a way of manufacturing margarine out of manure, his trusty lieutenants went away and later reported that although not margarine yet, they had discovered that it spread quite well!
