maxsan
hiLife seemed so simple when I was asking about rooting powder a few days ago. Alas, we have just discovered that we have an "underground" Bees nest in our garden. By chance, my better half noticed a number of Bees, hanging around the space just below our front stairwell, and decided to sit, albeit nervously, watching where these little darlings were going, he was very surprised to see them burrow their way underground. Having confirmed that he wasn't going mad (by asking me to observe the same) we have looked on the internet and it seems that some bees do in fact make their nest underground. The only advice on an American website was to pour petrol down the tracks (without igniting it) and run for cover!!. Has anyone got any sensible solutions as this particular patch is to be dug out soon and replaced with paving. But don't fancy digging it up if there is a whole colony of Bees below waiting to share their annoyance with us. I shudder to think that only a few weeks ago I savagely de-weeded this area!! Alcazar
My advice would be to leave them alone, sinmce they do no harm, and the type that live underground afren't aggressive........we have them within a metre of the area in the back garden where we sit out, and they are amusing to watch. However, if you HAVE to dig up and make a path, you could try blocking the holes to see if they go elsewhere,(pegged down plastic sheet over it), or digging round and removing the whole nest.As you can see, I'm not in favour of killing bees............now hornets, on the other hand..........Alcazar
Chauffour
hi, 2 lots of bees swarmed into our place last year (1 in the chimney and 1 in a hegde)! We asked our neighbour who called a local beekeeper. He came and got the bees to swarm into a wooden box by smoking them out; as long as he can get the queen the others follow. He took all 250 of them away to add to his collection and promised us some honey...!I know yours are underground but I think the local bee man should be able to deal with it.Bonne Chance
