Sjf
Hi, can anyone help a novice gardener? My pear tree (which I think has been here for years and years) started to develop lots of fruit about a month ago, but now almost all the fruit has stopped growing and turned black. Some of them have fallen off and some are still on the tree. As a novice, I have no idea what the cause is. I've tried looking on internet but most things I can find appear to affect the leaves and branches as well, and they look fine on my tree, so I am stumped. This is my first year of living here so I have previously only seen the tree at harvest time once before (2 years ago) when there was loads of fruit. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks,Shirley
Russethouse
Where are you ? Could it have been a late frost or unseasonable cold ?
Sjf
Thanks for your reply. Sorry, I should have said I was in Normandy, but it has been very mild here for a good while. Also, I have 2 apple trees and they are both fine. Perhaps it's something which specifically affects pears? Any suggestions? Thanks again,Shirley
Pantouflard
I was at my place in Normandy last weekend and my pears seem to be in a similar state. I'd be interested in any ideas too.
