Guest CFrost
HI everyone, me again I will be growing my own veggies in france for the first time! however, my kind of gardening is dig a hole and stick a plant in and see what happens! Can't do this with veg! my question is this, I will be using what used to be an area where the previous owners kept their chickens, although it has been a year since they left, is there anything I need to do to the ground before I can use it for veggies, ie dig up top layer and replace etc. I have bought a book about growing veg but it doesn't me ntion chicken sheds Any advice would be greatly appreciated or if anyone can recommend a book that will cover all areas.many thanks in advanceKimberley
chris pp
If the land is particularly rich in chicken droppings the addition and digging in of wood ash will be beneficial. Chris

Dave&Olive
hi just about chickens and bird flu. all the locals around here are building hen houses with a vengence seems france is to adopt the policy of no " free range" birds they must be kept under cover . posts or updates welcome dave
Bannon
We have been keeping ours inside their run for over a week now. Chicks not happy about it though. Wild birds are often inside picking up seed as well so we'll also have to consider netting for covering over I suppose. No advice given as yet from our local authorities here in department 18..... unless anyone knows different.
