val douest
Can anyone suggest where I can buy a kaki tree to plant in thegarden? There are lots of them in this area but they seem to betreated as ornamental and I have never seen the fruit gathered and used- yet it is possible to buy (expensive) kaki fruit in thesupermarket. I know there are different types and that some ofthem are impossibly astringent even when ripe but they are widely grownfor fruit in other parts of the world (eg USA and Japan) so I wouldhave thought the edible ones would do OK here. No luck so far inour local garden centres or nursery and Delbard do not list them intheir catalogue. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks,Val
Teamedup
Funny you mentioning kaki's. We were discussing them this week and I told my husband that I was pretty sure that they are called persimmon in english. In our neck of the woods they are usually left to rot. I used to wonder what they were and then someone decided to give us some and none of us liked them at all and I threw the rest out. At least I understood why no one seemed to pick them then.I have seen them to buy on the odd occassion in our region which always surprises me as all the world and their dog seem to have a tree and not pick the fruit. EDIT Sorry don't know where you would get one from. I would try a pepineriste or garden centre.
Hoddy
This may not be of any use but Delmas & Fils from St Capraise de Lalinde list one in their catalogue. Maybe other pepinieres have them too.Like TU I don't care for the taste and they make an awful mess on the road.Hoddy
