La Vette
Why is it that I have planted three melons - one first then two others later, and they die within 24 hours. Just shrivel up??? I have planted them in beauiful soil that was previously a maize field and have had great success with peppers and tomatoes (although 2 out of 8 toms have gone too). Are they particularly delicate, they seemeed to shrivel as soon as I put them in the ground. Should they be under glass/plastic, it is quite hot here now. Don't wnt to buy more plants if they are a lost cause.

TWINKLE
Hi La VetteYou shouldn't plant melons in the ground until at least June. They like very warm temperatures. If you're in a cold region you should keep them in a greenhouse. When the fruit starts growing place it on a piece tile to keep it warm and protected from the soggy soil, otherwise the underside will rot. They do get to be very big plants so leave a good 2 metres between each plant. I did a thread on melons in Food & Drink if you need anymore advice.
