absolut
We have several large and quite old Rhododendrons in our garden. We have been here in Burgundy for over 4 years and they have been fine.A few weeks ago the leaves started to turn yellow and are now rapidly dropping off.Can anyone help please? Cassis
Rhodos are susceptible to a host of bugs and diseases. They don't like waterologged roots - can't imagine that's your problem - and they have to have an acid soil. Have you checked your soil ph - should be 4.5-5.5 for them to be really happy. If your soil is not naturally acid, it may be that the previous owners gave it a regular treatment to counteract lime chlorosis (which causes yellowing and leaf fall). The effects may now have worn off after a few years of no treatment. All garden centres sell stuff to treat the soil if that is the case. But you've probably lost next year's flower buds as well.
