Cassis
Bananas have different degrees of hardiness but all need to be protected from frost, winter damp and wind. Frost in the roots will kill it. Ideally, cut back the leaves, wrap it in sacking, dig it up, stick it in a big plastic pot (lighter than terracotta to move) and put it somewhere frost free.If you can't dig it up and put it in a frost-free place, your best bet is probably cutting the plant back andwrapping the plant in hessian sacking. If you can wrap it in a blanket of hessian and straw, so much the better. Also cover theground at the base of the plant with a mound of straw or mulch to try toprotect the roots. But it's a dodgy business leaving them outdoors. Do you get heavy frost? You could try as a backup taking small suckers, severed very close to the parent rhizome, and pot them for overwintering indoors. chris pp
Gary, Should be OK outside where you are if you do the wrapping up as Phil suggested, plenty of straw and some fleece to bind it up.Chris
Bugsy
Thank you both, I'm just about to move them into a frost free environment.
