euro
i noticed a post a few days ago about buying mowers.the last mower i bought was a Toro zero turn rider which cuts my 3 acres very quickly - usually a morning or pm.But having decided which machine i wanted i then researched various buying options & decided to get it from a dealer in the USA who will ship worldwide.i factored in a combination of the dollar versus euro rate plus 0% sales tax in the states - then had to add delivery charge & french vat and still saved around 1500 euro ! (2005 pricing)the other reason for this is quite simply the dealers here have a history charging high prices and there isnt any real competition driving down prices.if i bought it in France they said 3 - 4 weeks for delivery yet it came from the us in 10 days direct to my door.my new Husqvarna xp 346 chainsaw arrives next week and the total ensemble would have been 300 euro more to buy at my local dealer.warranties are worldwide and usually the spec of the equipment is the same & this can be verified with the manufacturers.i found my us dealers mainly via ebay.com - the american site. nb i always get my Polaris poolvac spares this way as well and save over 50 % happy shopping ! i
Chezstevens
I bought mine through the USAF Base Exchange at Aviano (Italy) some 8 years ago. Ordered whilst working there and collected it on a trailer to go back to France. 20 HP B&S with 46'' deck complete with cupholder for less than £1000 - forgotten the make but probably Yardman or MTD (It's green). Good as gold and I get the local Mower shop to service it every 25 hrs - quick oil and filter change plus occasional belts/blades.Steve - was that just 19.6% or do they add additional taxes for outside europe? The UK C&E folks do - I seem to remember it was some 10% or so depending on item. Did you pay the haulier the tax on delivery? The company wasn't Wise Gen and Pwr Equipment was it?regardsVern
euro
Hi The company i got the mower from was called Speedway and the import cost was just vat which the haulier telephoned ahead to give the figure due ,then i gave a cheque on delivery.its such a shame the electrical system isnt 220 - 240 as power tools are overpriced in france as well - i find most things are except fags / booze and restaurant food!the company i got my chainsaw from is called Roberts small engines , ad on ebay and if you drill into the feedback lots of french people are doing the same as me ! steve

Chezstevens
I have a heavy duty stepdown transformer in the garage for my 110v woodworking tools - courtesy of Canadian Tyre, BX etc- craftmaster and japanese tools mostly. Paid for 220 portable hammerdrill 'cos I did not want to lug a heavy transformer around.
euro
sorry i cant recall the exact prices as it was a while back , but i do recall the saving was enormous and may even be more then the figure mentioned before.but if you are in the market for a machine then look at the range online with the rrp shown in dollars add 500 for delivery and then do a conversion to euro then add the french vat - you can then compare that with your local dealers.the Toro machine is superb though and can cut around trees in one go plus it cuts in reverse so no time / fuel gets wasted.i was having my car fixed and whilst waiting observed a pro gardner arrive at a large lawn and cut in no time , so when i had to replace my old broken machine there was no doubt about the kind of kit to get.you can get similair machines from lawn boy and husqvarna.
