Mayennaise
There seems to have been rather a lot of trees being cut down around here at the moment - many more than in previous years. I heard today that there is a new European law about to come into force that will prevent these trees being cut down completely - they will only be able to trim them in future. Has anyone else heard anything about this?
Cassis
Which law regarding which trees? Forest, private land? Every winter we have large tracts of the Perseigne forest apparently devastated (looks a lot worse than decimated) by the foresters' logging operations, which work has to be completed by end of March and the paths restored, but it is all part of the management process - areas are stripped out in turn then allowed to recover over the next 20 years.Without it the forest gradually becomes impassable. Dick Smith
What is a European law, please?Surely you are subject to French law, which may or may not take notice of European recommendations and directives? Can you cite a source? And do you mean decimation, i.e. the removal of one tree in ten?
Mayennaise
Oh Lordy - I knew as soon as I had posted that I had used the wrong word ! As I said before, I am used to seeing an abundance (is that better Dick?) of tree felling in late winter - it just seems that there is a lot more of it going on at the moment on what I presume is private land (fields etc bordering the roads). Only heard the rumour this morning at the swimming pool! so wanted to see if any one else knew anything. Could just be Chinese Whispers.
Cassis
If it is felling of roadside trees then I empathise - I hate to see that done to healthy trees, especially if they are not replaced. Okay, they may pose a nuisance to high sided vehicles in some locations, but I agree there appears to be a lot of indiscriminate felling of this type, which is sad. Mayennaise
On the bright side - wood should certainly be a bit cheaper in the coming winters!
