londoneye
I hope the spelling is correct (Lilas des Indes). I bought two at end of last year (summer charm and natchez) and planted them. All went well, leaves came out this year, one has grown an awful lot, but neither have flowered. I am sure the information on them said they were suitable for this climate (region 87 - Haute Vienne). They both look like they flowered last year as they had a couple of seeds on them when they arrived, although they were quite small. So, I am wondering if anyone else in region 87 has them, and whether they 'normally' flower, but the weather has not been right (or good enough) for them to flower this year. They are actually very pretty things even without flowers, but since I bought them for their long flowering period it would be nice to have some!! Pierre ZFP
Spelt LagerstroemiaShould be easy to grow, full sun, well drained acidic soil.Prune off seed heads to promote flowering. Takes 10-20 YEARS to mature. If your plants are small, they are probably just getting their breathe back. I expect they'll be OK next year with a bit of decent weather. londoneye
Thank you. I didn't really understand why there was a problem, as they are growing fine etc. Roll on next year then (oh and some decent weather would be nice !).I was getting a bit concerned as whilst they weren't hugely expensive, they weren't mega-cheap, and they were going to be my main flowering shrub (I guess they are classed as a shrub) in two borders.
