Bugsy
Absolutely any time is the answer, apart from the depths of winter, of course.I've just butchered a large section of laurel in our garden, 15 metres high down to 1.5, and two weeks later it's already budding. Clair
Autumn is best as the ground is still warm and encourages root growth.Spring is fine too but bushes and trees planted in autumn will have a head start compared with those planted in the following spring, as they'll already be semi-established when the ones planted later will still be settling down.I planted some in 2004 and they looked like they were about to die off for the first few months but they are now so big I'm planning a major trim next month... TempsPerdu
As Clair says Autumn is the best time, I would guess mid to late September so the days aren't too hot or the ground too dry. But beware laurel can shoot up and go a bit wild as we discovered!! But it does attract a lot of wild life with several varieties of birds nesting in our outer boundary hedge. Make sure you plant them at least 1.5-2 metres away from your boundary, which makes trimming easier later on once it is established, I think this might be a legal requirement..RegardsSteve
