ali-cat
We have what appears to be a very old chestnut tree in our courtyard that has been 'hard pruned' in the same way the trees are in the centre of the villages. You know the type - knobbly looking giant bonsais. Unfortunately I can't remember the term and couldn't find anything on the web. I've noticed that most of the trees in the towns have now been pruned and need to do the same otherwise it will be impossible to do next year. Is there anything I should know or do I just prune back all the branches to the main stems?Mr Cat
Anton Redman
If it is the very heavy prunning the used to do to poplars in London I think the word is 'Pollard' ot 'Pollarding'Cannot help with practicalities as our tree blew over in a gale 18 months ago. Link as below Suggest search on 'Pollard AND tree' as Sue Pollard seems to dominate the UK web.http://www.rfs.org.uk/thirdlevel.asp?ThirdLevel=21&SecondLevel=
