osie
Hi AllWe were asked what tree and bush this is... The bush has been identified by many but all differently.... It has white flowers that smell amazing and seems to flower only once a year about May.Many thanks in advance...osie
Clair
The bush is Mock orange (Philadelphus)
Russethouse
Agreed - and yours looks like the lighter more yellowy variety " Sundance" like mine - or was it just the sun on the leaves ?
Callie
Interesting. I would have said the bottom two photographs were Choisya (Mexican Orange Blossom) !Osie - is your shrub deciduous - in which case it's Philadelphus - or evergreen, in which case it's probably Choisya ! Photo #2 in particular looks like a Choisa.
Russethouse
Hmm - I thought Choisya Ternata (which is what this is) was 'Mock orange blossom'
osie
Hi AllIt is evergreen and the flowers do look exactly the same as the Choisya photos I found on the web... That is a spot on.Cheers for the quick replies.Regardsosie

osie
the tree should be upright now... you might need F5 to reload it.The tree has never had fruit as far as I know... and the leaves are permanently falling... osie
Framboise
Looks like Robinia Frisee or False Acacia. Does it have white flowers similar to laburnum followed by dangly seed pods? If so, Robinia Frisee is yer man.
Callie
Now the tree is standing on its feet, I too would say it is a Robinia or False Acacia. The bark is apparently toxic to horses whilst on the tree.
Jacqui Too
Before I will commit to what it might be can I ask if it flowers? if so what colour? and what do they look like?Robinia looks good at the moment!
Russethouse
I was going to add Glenditsia to the mix, but I think the tree is the wrong shape.......
Callie
I forgot to say that the Robinia has wicked thorns.....[:'(]
osie
It has never flowered... not to say it wont... no thorns either
Russethouse
Can you use google images to look at Robinia and Glenditsia ?
osie
I would say that the leaves look very much like the Robinia. The difference being no thorns, no flowers and our tree looks very much like a stick with a sperical lolly pop on the top.. There are no branches as such.. just lots of twigs with loads of leaves.I found this photo on the web and the bark is pretty much identical... which makes be think that we have hit the nail on the head... I also read on the net that not all Robinia have thorns and the flowers... maybe the flowers will pop out in a few years. I think our tree is about 3 or 4 years old.http://www.bomengids.nl/pics/Witte_acacia__Robinia_pseudoacacia__Black_locust@1@bastdichtbijbarkupclose@img_0015.jpgSo unless there are any other suggestions... I would say we have a match. Thanks allosie
