hakunamatata
I am searching for old/affordable barrels. Has anybody got any they dont want (chance would be a fine thing I'm sure) or has anyone any suggestions as to how much I should be prepared to pay. We can use a trailer so if a supply is nearby we can collect.
Pierre ZFP
A while back my Auchan hypermarché was selling whole oak barrels off after a wine promo for €50 !!Nicely made but would need a little more work to be watertight (or any other liquid-tight). I was tempted but I didn't get one as I have no real need for one.Might be worth asking if you have a local Auchan, they might have a dusty one lurking at the back of the storeroom. just john
Paid €40 for half barrel (nicely finished, with rope handles but clearly ex wine) near Riberac (24) and then found whole barrels for €30 (ex wine) in a garage at St Romain (16), he was quite happy to cut them in half and deliver them for the same price (too big to fit in car!). Bit far to travel maybe but at least gives you a price comparison[8-|]
hakunamatata
Very interesting JJ. Our son has a couple of friends in the wine trade so maybe we will get something from them. I was interested in prices because items for the garden seem to be very costly down here
