Katieb
I wonder if anybody could suggest a book or web site address relating to the above as we would like to try our hands at planting according to the lunar calendar this year.Thankyou, Kate

Patf
The weekly gardening magazine Rustica publishes a chart annually. There's also a section each week on how and what to plant acc. to the moon etc. Sold at most newsagents/ tabacs. Pat.
mooky
I use a very easy to use book, that is in the form of a diary. Amazon sell them. Gardening and planting by the moon., by Nick Kollerstrom. This 'year' goes from Oct 2006_Dec 2007.For example Today was planting plants that have fruit; tomatoes, beans, peas.Tomorrow is a no no day for the garden because the moon crosses its node.Good luck. I find it to be very good.
mmaddock
Just talk to a rural Frenchman.
LOL. Our neighbour gave me some hand-written A4 sheets he'd copied for me that showed me what to plant and when according to the phase of the moon. I thought he'd gone completely barmy! but I later found out it seems the normal thing to do. I have heard they do the same thing in Italy too. I have to confess I don't really understand it so I've just planted my veggies at the same time he does!! I'll have a look at the link later and see if I can understand it all better.Matt
Monika
This reminded me so much of my mother (Swiss) who never planted anything but on a "waxing" moon. Also never cut your hair on a "waning" moon and only ever have an operation on a "waxing" moon.
Gemini_man
If you pop into your local Gamme Vert, or whatever you have up there as garden centre, towards the end of the year they will almost certainly have by the checkout a display thingy with loads of copies of "jardiner avec la lune" or something similar. If you can't wait 'till then you can buy here: http://www.achat-caen.com/pro3229-jardiner-avec-la-lune-2007-jardiner-lune-jardin-lune.htmalternatively I would recommend this site: http://www.graines-et-plantes.com/index.php?Page=Calendrier-lunaire&lune=jardinsincidently I find them excellent for seeds :) : http://www.graines-et-plantes.com/index.php?Page=graines-semencesIt's funny but in our area all the farmers and smallholders do the same work at the same time - as in: "Oh, this week must be muck spreading week". How do I know? The wind always seems to be blowing in the wrong direction [:D]Gotta love the countryside [:P]

cassis
I always garden by the phases of the moon. The soil temperature, how soggy the ground is, the odd unexpected freezing spell, etc. are all utterly irrelevant. Just follow the moon. If you miss the right date just wait another month. odile
My dad always gardened by the moon. But it also influenced his mushroom hunting - he always said the best time for mushrooms if the period between the old and the new moon. he swore it was useless to go amushrooming when the moon is full. So when we get back to the Jura, I will try to follow his example.
