Gardengirl
Does anyone know if trees are generally protected by law, as I've been told? Trees in the grounds of our apartment are annoying some of the residents, who want to have a lot of work done, involving cutting down some and cutting back others. This is because they say it won't cost much extra to have a lot of work done in one visit from the tree people. The alternative would be to have some work done now and more cutting back in the future. Thanks, Jo
chris pp
It is quite unusual for a tree or trees to be protected in France, it is normally applied to trees of historic interest or exceptionally trees of great age.Check with Mairie or DDE. (Directtion Departementale de l'Equipement).Chris
Gardengirl
Thanks for that, Chris. Some of the trees are referred to as 'centenaires'. I'll try the mairie when we are back there next week. The DDE I don't know of - I'll look them up.Jo
Gardian
In Uzes, they're near the new hospital. Signage for it is L'Equipement.Be aware that they have moved some of the functions out of that office. The Mairie will be the best bet.
