scotty
are there any leeks which can be planted for harvesting in summer, and if there are, when does one plant them?thanks Scotty
Tricia
Best thing is to look in your local garden centre and see what they're selling.Otherwise you could plant seeds under cloches, just in case there's any more frost.I don't grow leeks, but have some onions in open beds which I put in last Nov. and are just starting to grow again. andyh4
I suspect that planted this early they would be likely to run to seed.
Gardengirl
I've always planted them in autumn for winter use in UK. Didn't see any on the market (France) this morning or Saturday, it was all lavender bushes, rosemary, trees and shrubs.
DorothyJay
We always buy ours at the local market - about 5 stallholders sell them alongside their other plants. They come in 50s - last year we bought 50 autumn leeks on the 6th May @ 3.50€ and 100 winter leeks on 10th June @ 4€ per 50. Still eating them! Only a few started seeding last year and I dug up and ate them straight away.
