fandango
Our Brussel sprouts are turning black and one has rotted halfway down the stem and snapped. The leaves are mottled with black spots then turn yellow and some of the sprouts are also turning black and are wet and slimy to the touch. Do we have black rot or is it something else? Help please! fandango
No nothing wrong with the roots, no maggots or worms. Anyone got any ideas?
andyh4
How about holes? and the roots tunneled through?I would not expect any maggots at this stage of the season.
fandango
Roots and stem seem to be healthy. My husband has sprayed with Bordeaux powder and things seem to be on hold. This particular bed has had problems for a couple of years, carrots had worms , swede were awful last year and leeks just didn't grow much. I think we have to have a major clean-up of this bed and avoid brassicas for a couple of years.
andyh4
Swede and Brassicas are in the same family (not obvious I know) so that could be a part of the problem. I agree keep away from the Brassica family in that bed for a couple of years. (PS Turnip and radish are also Brassicas)
