Pauline
Just wondered if anyone could tell me what the holes in our lawn are, we have had hundreds of moles which have now gone quiet for now thankfully, we have thousands of worm mounds and now we have started getting holes about the size of a milk bottle top in the lawn, we have no idea what is making them or what they are can anyone help please. woolybanana
Moles, voles, holes? It is the dreaded toles that have struck again. Somewhere between moles and voles, they dig and dig and dig, except on 21st July when they come out and dance on the lawn at midnight. If you happen to have a shotgun handy, that is the moment to blast the little lubbers to heck and back.[6]Or trolls of course, but I hesitate to open that can of worms! Pauline
So what do they do just make perfectly round holes from the lawn down or via the mole tunnels? do they just make holes and go? sorry to be so naive.
pachapapa
Mulots. Insensible to red light; stick a piece of red plastic on a torch and watch them play.
Rozmum
Whilst walking across our local stade with some friends one of them bent down and pointed out such a hole in the grass. She said they were made by crickets (insect, not game!) . When we looked around there were scores and when I got home I found them in our lawn also. ventodue
Are you seeing these holes now - I mean, at this time of year? It's just that Field Crickets, Gryllus campestris, Grillon champêtre in French, spend winter underground, sealed up in their holes.Craig
Pauline
We are certainly getting the holes still, can crickets dig threw solid clay?
