coykiesaol
I'm planting a country hedge - mixture of hornbeam, blackthorn, wild rose, rowan, hazel, privet, spindle, holly etc. They are small bare-rooted plants at present and I'm planting them a metre apart. Someone has suggested this is too close for the type of plants I have and 2 metres apart would be better. I'd welcome some advice / views on planting distances please. Russethouse
In a mixed hedge perhaps you should adjust the spacing accordingly, Holly is slow, hazel will fill a metre very fast etc......maybe it would be worth spending some time looking up the varios growth rates and sizes (It may say on any labels 'Size in 5 years, size in 10 years etc)
Bertie
We planted a bare root hedge with much of the same mixture in November last year. Plants were about a metre high and supplier suggested 50cm distant apart in 2 rows staggered. Tops on some were trimed to level height and straggly bits pruned off. When down at Christmas hedge looked healthy and we will fill in a few spaces that look bare with some left over plants.Bon Chance.
