JohnRoss
Found a use for many of the empty 20 litre plastic paraffin containers accumulating in the barn. Cut a big hole in the widest side with the jig saw and drilled a line of holes near the bottom edge and partly filled with a mixture of soil and compost. Lined them up on an old raised concrete base in the garden and tried growing spuds this way last year adding more soil as they grew and it worked well. powerdesal
We tried using them to grow carrots. Cleaned the containers very thoroughly, carrots grew beautifully, but tasted foul. Never again.
JohnRoss
Interesting. Was it residual paraffin do you think or some thing they had been fed with or mold or plastic gassing? I did hose them out before use and spuds tasted ok. Might the plastic have carcinogenic properties?................JR
