Quillan
Mrs 'Q' is away at the moment, I have no green fingers, in fact mine are the fingers of death when it comes to gardening. Everything I seem to touch dies so I need some help. Whilst touring my 'estate' I noticed a problem with apple and my pear tree and their leaf's so I took some photo's and wondered if anyone can help me with a cure. I have a book but part says it's aphids and the other a virus of some form and I don't know which. I should add that the trees are about 5M apart, one apple, one pear.My apple tree My pear tree.HELP! just john
In the absense of anyone more knowledgeable Q I believe if you pull the kinked leaf open you'll find a grub, and a good spray (with soap and water) would be a good first try[8-|]
Quillan
Thanks John, I will give that a try. Would washing up liquid be OK, watered down of course like in the same sort of dilution as in doing the washing up?
water rat
We get this caterpillar attack every year and noticed the neighbour doesn't. Knowing him to be organic I asked and he refered us to this bacterial spray by"solabiol" containing bacillus thuringiensis. Soap and water won't touch it because the caterpillars protect themselves wrapped in a leaf. We got it at the local brico.
andyh4
Q Picture 1 - not sure what I am supposed to be seeing except that your apple blossom has lost its petals - hopefully having set fruit-Picture 2 - could well be the result of excessive aphid attack - have you found aphids around? - or lots of ants? If yes then get a grease band and put it around the trunk of the tree - this will stop the ants which harvest the aphids. The the washing up liquid spray - probably mainly under the leaves will see off the aphids. But you do need to do both aphid and ant treatments.Picture 3 - could well be catapillar attack - so follow WR's advice.
