nectarine
Our plum tree has fruited heavily this year, and the branches are now bare of fruit and most of its leaves ... except that it is now blossoming again! Pretty white flowers on several of the trees, in September! I've not seen this before .. can anyone explain what is going on or are we due an Indian summer? Thanks
ukhostland
Hi Nectarine,It's just the weird weather confusing everything. We picked Ceps in the summer and have spring-flowering shrubs in blooming now. Isn'y Nature wonderful!Colin
AnOther
We too had a bumper crop of plums but immediately after harvesting them I severely pruned the tree, and I do mean severely, from maybe 3m tall and a 5m spread to not much more than a stump of about 1.5m high with 4 or 5 major branches, not only because it had got a bit out of control, overhanging the drive and with many small branches broken with the weight of the fruit, but also because summer is the recommended time to prune.http://www.gardenersworld.com/how-to/projects/plums-prune/That said it has already produced quite a lot of vigorous new shoots and I'm confident that it will survive and thrive again.
