suein56
You can authorise someone to sign for you/your husband . . so neither of you need attend the signing.Someone who knows more than me will be along soon with more detail.
NormanH
You need a 'procuration' (sign by proxy)I think it has to be done by a Notary rather than a solicitor although sometimes they might be the same person, and a signature at a solicitor's might suffice https://www.thenotariessociety.org.uk/
Judith
Memory tells me from a previous signing that one of the staff in the notaire's office was used to sign on one of our behalfs, but can't quite remember the full details now. Certainly proxies (as you say NormanH, procuration) can certainly be used, but it has to be someone on the ground in France, so you could use a friend if there was someone there .. having signed a procuration form for them to do so. But it is quite usual to have the notaire sign on a client's behalf.
idun
We were not in France when we sold, the notaire dealt with everything. We just signed everything as necessary.
nomoss
It may be possible for the Notaire to send the documents for the Acte to you by post for you to sign.It may be worth asking.Otherwise, I believe documents appointing a proxy can be signed and witnessed at a French Embassy or Consulate. Patf
There's a french form you fill in and sign authorising the notaire to sign on your behalf. Your notaire will send you the form if you ask. It costs a small amount.Otherwise as nomoss says the notaire could send you the documents by post to sign. We have done both (one purchase, one sale.)There's no need for a british solicitor
