Angie
Never seen horse or cow manure bagged up and left outside farms/houses for people to take in France, unlike in the UK. I am going to try the no dig method for my new veggie patch but need some manure to top up the beds. Is it acceptable to pop round to my local farmer/riding stables and ask for some? Thank you
YCCMB
Never seen manure bagged up and left as you describe in the UK either. Maybe it's a regional thing?I'm sure you can ask at stables or farms. Or find a local horse owner. Many would be pleased to have an "outlet"for their muck heap. Our friendly manure provider in the UK has us on speed dial! BritinBretagne
I live next door to a stud farm. If I was to ask for a barrow load of muck they would be happy for me to take the lot. It’s a never ending waste product. Find a nearby stables and ask.
Lehaut
Have done it for our garden from stables and a farm. The farm muck was a bit fresh and contained a amniotic sac of a calf, our eldest was most keen to take this home!
Patf
We also got a barrow load of manure from a farm a few times.Someone told us not to put it on the earth 'neat', but to soak in a lot of water and use the water. Use a large dustbin for that.
mint
You people have just reminded me of a little story heard in farming circles.Overheard at dinner table:Why does your husband always have to talk about manure? Can't you get him to say fertiliser instead?Well, it's taken me 10 years to get him to say manure!

Lehaut
Seems like the joke has not reached France!Les douanes ont saisi 13 kg de sh1t dans deux voitures jeudi 7 juin, à Niort (Deux-Sèvres). Trois hommes ont été interpellés et confiés à la police judiciaire nantaise.(Quoting the Ouest France)
Noisette
Err..isn't sh1t French slang for drugs? Who in their right mind would be transporting only 13kgs of manure? It's a trailer-load or nothing ;-)
Angie
Brilliant, thanks all. Have discovered a local dairy farm plus someone mentioned two stables within a couple of miles so I am going to bite the bullet and try out my best French! Fingers crossed I come back with a trailer full of manure and nothing else! Appreciate your replies as always.
Angie
One final question before I approach the local guys, what is the correct French term for "manure" please? Thank you

nomoss
If the farm can't help, there is a forum not too far away which produces it in vast quantities.
