How to ensure healthy peaches......

from your peach tree?

Couple of years ago, we were given 2 peach trees by an Irish friend who moved back to Ireland.  We didn't know what they were (only about a foot each) and neither did he.

Regrettably, we got rid of one for want of space!  The other one flowered for the first time last year and the blossoms looked beautiful on the bare branches.  It did produce quite a few peaches but, unfortunately, the fruit were mostly maggoty.

Can someone tell me whether there is something you could spray on it to prevent insect attack?

Hello mint, not a spray, but you could try a pheromone trap. It's the right time of year to use one. Available in all the GCs and most big supers, also through Amazon etc. You hang the plastic pyramid containing the sticky card and the pheromone capsule in the tree, it attracts the male moths, they get stuck, no hanky-panky with the females so no (or fewer) grubs in the fruit. It's worth changing the capsule after a couple of months, as advised, to get the second flush of males.
